We introduce the concept of the time contant early in this course and take time to explain what the physical meaning of the time constant really is. Next, we explore the natural response of circuits that have Inductors and Resistors (LR) and Capacitors with Resistors (RC). Next, explore and solve problems that deal with the step response of circuits in which a source is connected to the capacitor or indivtive load by a switch. These types of circuits are very common in circuit analysis and all students must master this material. With these tools, the student will be able to solve a wide variety of engineering level circuit problems with confidence.
