About the Actor

Lilias attended Bennington College where she studied painting
and drawing. She went on to study Italian while in Rome, Italy.
She started her yoga practices in 1964, studying with various
American teachers on the east and west coasts and with Swami
Vishnu-Devananda in New York City and Canada. In 1973, Lilias
went to India where she studied Vedanta philosophy and meditation
under the tutelage of Swami Chidananda of the Divine Life
Society, Rishikesh, India. In 1975, she continued hatha yoga
studies with Bernard Rishi of Paris, France, studying the B.K.S.
Iyengar method of Hatha yoga. The TV series, Lilias, Yoga and
You, began in Cincinnati on WCET-TV in 1970, and was nationally
distributed beginning in 1974 on PBS. During its run, which
lasted until 1979, the program was aired on more than 200
stations nationwide with an estimated regular audience of more
than 10 million viewers. Lilias was named one of the Four most
influential figures in American Yoga over the past 100 years by
the Yoga Journal. She was also recently featured in Yoga
International In Loving Gratitude as one of the four women who
made yoga what it is today. The PBS television series Lilias Yoga
and You and Lilias! was broadcast in every major market for 20
years reaching millions of new Yoga students. Lilias has appeared
on The Today Show, The Mike Douglas Show, Phil Donahue, Richard
Simmons as well as many other television broadcasts. Lilias was
featured in Fit Yoga Magazine, Yoga + Joyful Living Magazine in
2009 and Yoga Journal Magazine in 2010. She continues to
contribute to a variety of Yoga and publications. She
also appeared in a brief but memorable moments in Peter Sellers
movie, "Being There". Lilias audience includes housewives,
athletes, executives, seniors, Olympians, artists, members of
Congress and a former President of the US. Lilias recently took
part in the prestigious New York Times Speaker Series. She
continues to teach throughout the US and abroad inspiring
students and teachers throughout the USA, Canada and Europe with
the benefits of yoga body, mind and spirit. Lilias has been
featured in Time Magazine, which called her the Julia Child of
Yoga, People Magazine, McCall s, Vogue, Weight Watchers, Yoga
Journal, American Express Newsletter, and the Chicago Tribune TV
Magazine. She has been the subject of numerous feature articles
in other newspapers nationwide. With all of this, Lilias
cheerfully runs an active home and family life, enjoying
canoeing, backpacking with her sons Michael and Matthew, 5
grandchildren, her husband of 50 years Bob, and golden retriever
Patrick.
